Connecting the Universal Alarm to a PBX's Loud Bell contacts - (Direct Working).
The Universal Alarm supplies it’s own 12V power source across screw terminals 3 & 10 and just needs a set of “dry” contacts within the PBX for correct operation. Simply cable screw contacts 3 & 10 to the PBX's Loud Bell contacts.
Link J1 must be open.
The alarm tone is selected by the "Line 1" tone selection dip-switches. The modular socket can also be connected to an exchange line but an incoming ring will obviously share the same tone as the direct-working contacts. The Line 2 modular socket can be used for an exchange line and will (of course) give a different set of tones for an incoming exchange call.
NOTE:
If the PBX contacts are not actually "dry" and a voltage is applied across the Universal Alarm’s screw terminals 3 & 10, components on the alarm's PCB
will be damaged causing a continuous alarm tone to be heard. The only solution is to replace the Universal Alarm.
