How many strobe lights can I connect?
The strobe output connections on screw terminals 3 and 5 provide 12 volts, so only 12V strobe lights can be connected to the Universal Alarm.
A typical strobe light is rated at around 2 watts, drawing about 160mA at 12V. The Universal Alarm’s power supply is rated at around 12 watts. Therefore, with no horn speaker connected to the Universal Alarm up to 6 (2 watt) strobe lights can be connected without risking any damage to the unit's power supply.
A horn speaker will consume about 7 watts, leaving about 5 watts available for strobe light power. One horn speaker plus 2 (2 watt) strobe lights is therefore the recommended maximum load.
Lower or higher wattage strobe lights can of course be connected to the Universal Alarm - just remember that they must be 12V strobes and that the total load on the Universal Alarm's power supply should not exceed 12 watts.
Remember that strobe lights are polarity sensitive. To connect one of our strobe lights (cat# K3504BLU) to a Universal Alarm, make sure the black lead from the strobe light is on screw terminal 3 and the blue lead is on screw terminal 5.
